LATISSE® Lash Treatment

Frequently Asked Questions about LATISSE®

Now you can grow longer, fuller, darker eyelashes.

LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for treating inadequate eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller, and darker. Patients in a clinical trial saw results in as few as eight weeks with full results in twelve to sixteen weeks.

Research suggests that eyelashes grow when the percent of eyelashes in and the duration of the growth (anagen) phase increase. Lashes can grow longer, thicker, and darker because bimatoprost, the active ingredient in LATISSE® solution, can prolong this growth phase.

LATISSE® was developed through years of research by Allergan, Inc., a pharmaceutical leader with sixty plus years of expertise in prescription eye care products.

What is LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03%?

LATISSE® is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis, which is another name for inadequate or not enough eyelashes. The FDA reviewed clinical study results to verify the identity, potency, purity, and stability of the ingredients, and demonstrated that the product is safe and effective for its intended use if used as prescribed.

How does LATISSE® work?

LATISSE® solution is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase; and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. The exact way it works is unknown.

How do I apply LATISSE®?

LATISSE® solution is a once-a-day treatment you apply yourself each evening to the base of the upper eyelashes with the FDA-approved sterile applicators that are supplied with every prescription for LATISSE®. The applicators have been specially designed and manufactured to meet FDA standards and to ensure that the correct dose of LATISSE® is applied. It is important to follow the instructions that come with each prescription exactly. If you have any questions, ask your doctor.

LATISSE® users may see results starting at eight weeks with full results at twelve to sixteen weeks. The growth is gradual overnight and over time.

What if I forget to apply LATISSE® one night? Or a few nights?

If you miss an application or a few, do not try to catch up. Just apply the LATISSE® treatment the next evening as you normally would and stay on schedule.

What are the possible side effects of LATISSE®?

The most common side effects after using LATISSE® solution are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. LATISSE® solution may cause other less common side effects which typically occur on the skin close to where LATISSE® is applied or in the eyes. These include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids.

Eye redness may occur immediately after use, but should usually last only for a short period of time. Eye redness alone is not an allergic reaction or inflammation, and does not mean that your eyes are being harmed.

Could LATISSE® cause the color of my eyes to change?

Increased brown iris pigmentation has occurred when similar medications were instilled directly into the eye to treat elevated intraocular pressure/glaucoma. Although iris pigmentation was not reported in clinical studies with LATISSE®, patients should be advised about the potential for increased brown iris pigmentation which is likely to be permanent.
