What You Need to Know About Light Therapy and Other Beauty Trends

You can’t open a beauty magazine without seeing a reference to in-home light therapy devices. It seems this is the latest trend to combat wrinkles and other signs of aging. However, are the costs worth the results? Maybe, but as with other at-home trends, it is more effective when used with complementary medspa services.

We’re breaking down a bit more about light therapy and other trends you may be hearing about right now.

What Makes Light Therapy So Popular?

Light therapy devices are definitely trendy right now, thanks in part to the ability to enjoy the sessions at home. Some devices are wands while others are full masks, but all can be used as a part of your nighttime or daytime skincare routine.

Currently, there is not a lot of longterm research on light therapy devices. However, we do know that side effects are uncommon but can include irritability, headaches, eye strain, and insomnia. In extreme cases, light therapy devices can cause mania or other mental health issues.

Fortunately, the good far outweighs the potentially bad complications. Light therapy can be useful in treating a range of acne problems. It can also calm skin irritation and appears to be good for all skin types. Light therapy also does not use UV light and is non-invasive.

However, to be truly effective, light therapy devices should be used quite often. Some wands encourage daily use while masks can be more effective when used weekly.

Three Types of Light

There are three different types of lights used in light therapy. The first is Blue light.  This light is known best for its antibacterial properties and is effective in treating acne, preventing breakouts and calming eczema and psoriasis.

The second is Red Light. This form of light increases skin hydration, reduces redness and inflammation and shrinks pores. It is also an approved medical treatment for rosacea.

The last is Near Infra-Red light, which is the most deeply absorbed wavelength. It helps smooth lines and wrinkles, improves elasticity, wound healing and cystic acne.

The lights trigger your body’s natural cell process to help repair damaged skin cells. They also shrink the oil glands which can help stop future breakouts.

Popular Beauty Trends for 2020

Aside from light therapy, there are a few notable trends this year in the beauty world. As it has for many years, Botox and Dysport continue to lead the list of popular trends. These rejuvenation services are popular because they are effective, eliminating fine lines and other signs of aging.

There are skin rejuvenation options for everyone, which means you have choice when it comes to your skincare. Whether you’re treating acne or a stubborn childhood scar, there is some form of treatment available to help improve the health and appearance of your skin.

If you are overwhelmed by the choices available, reach out to the experienced professionals at GOLDCOAST medspa for expert guidance. Our services are comprehensive and will give you the outcome you desire.
